In 2010, Lynchburg embarked on a cross-departmental process redesign project focused on internal procedures, technology, and Six Sigma techniques. Actions included process redesign, additional staff training, increase investment in pre-registration, implementation of new technology, reorganization of non-patient access reporting areas, and revisions to Lynchburg’s financial assistance policy. As a result of these efforts, Lynchburg was able to decrease A/R days by 46 percent, increase point-of-service cash collections by $3 million, while maintaining cost to collect at less than 3 percent.
